Remote controlled airplanes is truly a hobby for all ages from 8 to 80. You do not need special skills or knowledge or be particularly athletic or understand flight physics. RC flying is a truly democratic pastime, accessible to most any age, gender and income group. It is also one of a handful of outdoor/indoor hobbies you can take up when young and continue to enjoy all through your lifetime.
One of the best things about remote controlled airplanes is that you can get into the hobby at an early age and stay and grow with it your whole life. As a sport, RC aviation is a great leveler - almost anyone can learn to fly remote controlled airplanes and RC helicopters. No special physical skill, strength or conditioning needed, just average hand-eye coordination and reflexes and decent eyesight.
Kids can start as young as 7 or 8, so long as their aircraft is age-appropriate. Adult supervision is always a good idea, at least when a child is just starting out. If you start early enough, you will have decades of satisfying fun with remote controlled airplanes and helicopters.
Not only is RC flying a hobby for all age groups, it brings families closer and encourages adults and youngsters to play and learn together. Any time spent away from TV and Xbox/Wii/PlayStation is a healthy lifestyle change. My RC club has several active members well into their 70s, and one has been in RC aviation since 1952. Two fly 3D planes and one 3D RC helicopters, so when I say remote controlled airplanes is for ages 8 to 80, I mean it literally. I'm also not embarrassed to say they are all better pilots than I am, but then they have been at it longer. No matter what your age, if you get started today you can look forward to many years of thrilling RC flight!
