Although this was the maiden flight, and more balancing needs done, I proved the Single Rotor Blade Rotor head concept to myself in my past (as seen in my single rotor bladed videos. This led me to the next step of a bigger Nitro Helicopter test. I used my one of my Vintage Kyosho Nexus 30's for this experiment. Since having success with my truly one bladed helicopter, the Hyperfly with no tail rotor blades, this was just natural and easy to do. Again, this machine and setup surprised me as it uses less power, is just as maneuverable or better than stock. My theory proven is that since there is not as much blade turbulence, the one blade is quite sufficient, using less power with longer run times on electrics, and also being quieter. My Physics Majors tell me that as long as the counter weight is on, there would be no extra stress on the bearings. Bearings get changed regular on real helis, so this is no problem normally. But if they start wobbling, I will tell you. But since it is SO smooth, I think the bearings will last longer, however I have never burned out a bearing in any helicopter, not even a gas one. That's because I crash them long before that. LOL! So I think bigger heli's could use this technique someday, but in the mean time, I will continue to fly my Heli's with one ...

Many of the fast planes are designed for those who have had some experience at least of controlled a remote control plane and ready to progress to the next level up. The designs are very professional and give a high amount of performance and speed so ideally should only been flown in open areas such as your local park. Do bear in mind the safety aspects as there will be many people, families and animals in the area. Even though many planes are designed to be flexible when crashing, they can still be painful if they are to hit someone which is why experience is usually necessary.
More channels on the controller mean more planes can fly in the area without the signal getting confused between devices. Here's an Aeronautical Design Project Test. I made it simple, at the time and it worked fine. This and the Hyperfly are Flying Machines, NOT helicopters and NOT designed to hover. Benson Gyrocopters fly similar and were also NOT designed to Hover!. Hopefully you will understand the purpose and reason behind my extremely simple design when RC electric helis were brand new inventions. We were trying to make it easy not hard. Remember, this was 30 years ago! Today, I did this for fun, a challenge, and because of the lousy weather. I decided to take the tail rotor off my Exceed RC Falcon 40 helicopter and add a foam picnic plate to it instead. This was how I invented the Hyperfly NOTAR for Kyosho. I thought the Falcon 40 would be a good candidate to try it on. Here is what happened. My Hyperfly design was purchased by Kyosho in Japan and had a rather long and successful sales run in far East and USA, of about 8 years. Since there were no gyros or anybody that could help much with the fledgling electric helicopters in those early days, the RC airplane guys only wanted to fly my gas ones once up in the air.. Once I had the heli up and flying (like an airplane) they could fly around. Helis fly similar to an RC plane in forward flight. But I always had to land it, cause I could hover and they could not.....and it was my heli! LOL. For this reason, I designed the Hyperfly, just for forward flight. However, with a speed control and a little wind, you could even hover it very nicely ...
Learning to negotiate turns smoothly, keeping a steady altitude and then leveling out after finishing, is one of the most basic skills you must develop to fly an electric RC plane. The first turn you make must come after the plane has climbed to a workable altitude. Ascend up to about tree-top height and level out. Depending on your controllers, you may just move the rudder to turn at this point. If you have ailerons, you'll want to be careful not to just roll the aircraft, but blend a little elevator lift at the same time to keep more control.
Perhaps it helps to think of turning an electric RC plane like driving a race car. A high speed car doesn't just turn, but the track tips up toward the outside and helps the car bank around the curve. Your airplane doesn't want to shift and jerk into a different direction, it wants to ease around the curve. Keep that in mind and the whole process will be smoother and make you look more professional. However, this is not NASCAR! You don't want your RC craft to just go fast and turn left. Let off the throttle a little when you turn and the process will go smoothly.
Get good at navigating both left and right turns. After you've developed some proficiency in this area, take your airplane out on a breezy day and develop your skills to turn both into and out of the airflow. Keep practicing until you have turns mastered, and then you'll be ready to try your hand at loops, rolls and even fancier maneuvers. Stick with it and you'll soon be doing advanced aerobatics with your electric RC plane!

Please read the Challenge. Here is more fun with toys I wish I had when I was a kid, as I am finally getting to play with them now at age 62! Here I demonstrate how the Air Hogs (to be released Fall, 2010) "Hawk Eye" camera helicopter (for the budding aerial photographers and for the old guys like me), flies outside. IR controlled, so just fly it when the sun is down. Also, it is difficult to see which way it is going at high altitude, so get it trimmed good, remembering not to shut it off in flight, as it will tumble to the ground, but without damage. As you can see, I have really whackoed this little heli and it just keeps going. No damage whatsoever. This may be tame for you purists, but it was fun for me to fly, just to make the video. Plus, having flown lots of big gas stuff, etc, this is a nice little "walk in the park". Who knows what you will do with one. So I welcome and look forward to any video responses you can make with your Hawkeyes, so bring 'em on when you can get them.... Using the Ancient Mayan gold figurine as a guide, I made a model to see if it would fly with the HOLES on the wing. There is PHYSICAL PROOF (see links below) that other cultures way older than the Mayans and Before Christ that also showed technology. Being Naive about our Earth's history doesn't mean the evidence doesn't exist. It does. I only ask questions in this video and am not making any "religious statements".
